[15 December 2008] GGOS Steering Committee selected new GGOS components: At its Fourteenth Meeting on December 14, 2008 in San Francisco, California, USA, the GGOS Steering Committee selected the institutions responsible for two new components of GGOS and the GGOS Web Portal. The GGOS Bureau for Networks and Communication will be hosted at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, USA, with Michael Pearlman as the Director. The Bureau for Standards and Conventions will be hosted by the German Forschungsgruppe Satellitengeodäsie (Research Group on Satellite Geodesy), with Urs Hugentobler as the Head. The GGOS Web Portal will be developed and hosted by the German Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG), Frankfurt, with Dr. Wolfgang Schwegmann being the GGOS Portal manager.

The Fourteens Steering Committee Meeting, which was held jointly with the IAG Executive Committee Meeting, was very well attended by 35 members and guests. The GGOS Steering Committee addressed a long list of items relevant to the development of GGOS as well as geodesy and earth observations in general. The agenda of the meeting is available at the SC14 Meeting Page and full minutes of the meeting will be available there before the end of December 2008.
